Is ‘Christian Unity’ a False Notion?

There are so many types of Christians, each with their own tradition, focus, and flavor.  Each are assets to God’s Kingdom work and each are liabilities in their own way.  Creating unity, it seems, is a very difficult thing.

You’d think that complexity and diversity would scatter and confuse, but I have found the opposite to be true.  I’ve realized that when people sing the hymn Blest Be the Tie that Binds, they’re not talking about me.  I don’t have be Unity for all things and all people.  The Center upon which all things are connected is already here.

I am a spoke, a body part, a singular act in a much larger play.

The question of unity really boils down to another question: can we be centered upon God
